description
The Cul-noir bowl. As "cul" means "buttocks" in French and "noir" means "black," this is an old folk art item with a black (strictly speaking, brownish-brown) back, originating from Rouen in Normandy. It is made of reddish-brown or biscuit-colored clay, with a white surface and a deep candy-colored back that is almost black. This piece has flaking and chipping of the glaze on the rim, back elevation, and sides, but the interior is generally in good condition. There is a crack on the edge, so if you are careful not to soak it for a long time, you will find it helpful in various settings. Please enjoy it not only for cooking but also for your ideas.
