美しい白釉の平皿。ファイアンスらしいぽってりとした釉薬の肌感と優美ながらも少し甘さが残るフォルムが美しい逸品です。ファイアンスとは繊細な淡黄色の土の上に錫釉をかけて焼成された、フランスなどの西中欧諸国で製陶されていた陶磁器のことで、磁器(Porcelain)や半陶半磁器(Terre de Fer)とは、また異なる面持ちが魅力的な焼き物です。白釉のファイアンスは、ムスティエなどの産地が有名かと思いますが、カンペールやルーアンなどもファイアンス焼きの中心地として有名であり、それらの殆どが刻印などをつけなかった為、装飾や絵付、釉薬の特徴などから考慮して産地を窺う必要があるという、少し不透明なところがまた面白いと個人的に感じている焼き物です。本品は、私の手に渡ってきた際にはムスティエのものと伺っておりましたが、寒色の絵付の色や装飾、そして造形など、キュノワールのような風格を感じます。もしかするとルーアンで製陶された物なのかもしれません。貫入や縁に欠けなどがありますが全体的に状態は良好で、幅広いシーンでお楽しみ頂ける一枚かと存じます。お好きな方は是非。
This flat dish has a beautiful white glaze. The chubby glazed surface characteristic of faience and the graceful yet slightly sweet form make this dish a lovely gem. Faience is a ceramic ware produced in Western and Central European countries such as France. It is made by firing a delicate pale yellow clay with a tin glaze. Most white-glazed faience are not to be marked, so one must look for the place of origin by the characteristics of the decoration, painting, and glaze, which is somewhat uncertain, but that is why faience is so atmospheric. When this piece came to me, I was told it was from Moustiers, but the painting, decoration, and the cold colors of the form give the impression of Cul-noir. Perhaps it was made in Rouen. There are some penetrations and chips to the rim, but the piece is in good condition and can be enjoyed in a wide range of settings.
